TU football will be heading to Orlando, Florida, Friday to take on the University of Central Florida (5-3).
The Knights have lost four consecutive games to TU. The two teams have met seven times from 2005-2012. Tulsa has won five of those seven games within that series. The two teams are currently tied 2-2 in Florida.
The Golden Hurricanes won last week's game against SMU, 38-28. This win broke their seven game losing streak, making them 2-7 on the season.
Coach Blankenship stated that quarterback Dane Evans' improvement in the last four games is the kind of progress they need to be in a position to win. Evans completed 16 passes for 286 yards, and a career high of five touchdowns against SMU. Evans was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week Monday. The 6'1” sophomore from Texas is the second Golden Hurricane to receive the award this year. Wide receiver Keevan Lucas was also awarded the accolade earlier this season.
Also, Michael Mudoh, Tulsa's junior safety, was one of five players named to the American Honor Roll this week. Mudoh had 12 tackles, recovered a fumble, and closed the game with an interception.
This will only be the second time this season that TU gets the chance to prepare for a game coming off a win. Junior running back Zack Langer said, “It gives us a lot of momentum going into this week, and the rest of the season.”
The game will be televised on ESPN2 at 7:00 p.m. (CT).
