Police Pursuit Ends In Tulsa With Driver Behind Bars, Drugs Seized

A police pursuit ended with a crash along I-44 Wednesday afternoon. Will Kavanagh and Osage SkyNews 6 HD had the best vantage point as trooper chased a gold SUV crisscrossing through the Tulsa metro.

"They're still now playing bumper cars. Well, there they go. I think they got 'em now, Scott. They really bumped him on the side, up on the center median here," Kavanagh narrated from the sky.

Troopers said they're still not sure why the man was driving so aggressively before they started chasing him or why he didn't have tags on the vehicle, but what they do know, is that he's not from Oklahoma, and that he was driving through the area from California.

Troopers took down the driver of the SUV that led The Oklahoma Highway Patrol on a high speed chase for miles.

It started from the Will Rogers Turnpike and ended just as the Turner Turnpike begins near Sapulpa; along the way the driver detoured along the Port of Catoosa Road and back onto I-44.

"It was an extremely dangerous pursuit," Trooper Jack Choate said.

Troopers said the chase started near Catoosa when they noticed the man driving aggressively driving on the shoulder and speeding.

Things didn't get much better when they tried to stop him.

"He was definitely an aggressive driver. He was driving from 100 to 60 miles per hour, depending on the congested traffic, passing cars on the right, passing cars on the shoulder, meeting cars head on in the wrong lane, went through a school zone at Catoosa at high speeds,” said Choate.

“We went through red stop lights, we exited the interstate at high rates of speed going through stop signs and nearly struck a couple of cars. He attempted multiple times to ram Lieutenant Lambert before the pursuit ended,” he said.

The vehicle eventually ran over stop sticks and the trooper was able to use a tactical maneuver to get the SUV to crash, ending the dangerous pursuit.

The trooper that ultimately brought the chase to a close was the same one who began chasing the driver.

"Heroic. He terminated this pursuit as soon as he had a safe opportunity to do so after the suspect rammed him twice. Lieutenant Lambert ended this pursuit in a very safe manner," said Choate.

The pursuit led police to a large amount of potentially illegal drugs and sent a man to jail.

As of right now the driver of the SUV is in the Rogers County jail.

Jail records show Rendon Enrique Torres, 22 from Bakersville, California was booked on complaints of eluding a police officer, possession of a controlled substance, possession of controlled substance without a tax stamp and assault or battery with a deadly weapon.
