New stores, lower prices and lots of shopping are all headed to Tulsa, as the city and Horizon Group Properties are set to announce plans for an east Tulsa outlet mall.
Horizon is the same property group that built the successful Outlets Shoppes in Oklahoma City. We wanted to know what we could expect here, so we did a little shopping in Oklahoma City to get the answer.

The Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City opened three years ago, and since then many Green Country shoppers, like Shirley Chambers, have been taking the turnpike to get the best deals out west.
“We go all over to shop the outlet malls,” she said.
Chambers is what you might call an outlet mall enthusiast.
“I get a better price, generally. That's what I look for anyway,” she said.
She and her husband have to make quite a drive to do their bargain shopping. The Outlet Shoppes are 180 miles from their home in Atoka, where the shopping options are sparse.
“Sharpe's and Walmart, that's our stores,” Chambers laughed.
The couple made the long drive to Oklahoma City for one reason and one reason only, to shop the outlet mall.
Coach, Michael Kohrs, and Ralph Lauren Polo are just a few of the big, brand-name stores anchoring Oklahoma City's outlet mall.
We won't know more until Wednesday afternoon's announcement, but for now, Horizon Group Properties said a 90-store, deco-style outlet mall will be built in east Tulsa; and Valerie Frapp is looking forward to getting outlet deals closer to home.
“Excites me? Yes. Very excited,” she said.
Frapp lives in Vinita, not far from Tulsa, though she rarely stops to shop in T-town.
“Mainly Oklahoma City because we shop a lot, so we like lower prices,” she said.
For super shoppers, like Frapp and Chambers, if those lower prices and big names come to Tulsa, they will too.
“Well, I would like to go to Tulsa more often, so yeah, a good outlet mall would be a good reason to go there,” said Chambers.
During Wednesday's announcement at Tulsa City hall, we'll learn exactly where the outlet mall will be built, the number of jobs it could add to the workforce and some of the stores that will be coming to town.
One thing we are told is that the outlet mall would be open for shopping in 2017.
