A tenant and his kids filming a video on top of the Mayo Building sparked a Tulsa police response Friday evening.

Sergeant Bryan Bryden, TPD, said about 10 officers and the police helicopter checked out reports of an armed person on the roof of the Mayo Building, 420 South Main. About 20 minutes into their response, they learned it was a false alarm.

"We were contacted by a tenant and his kids who apparently were actually filming a video up on the roof with toy guns," Bryden said.

Police confirmed that the weapons were toys but said they have to respond to every threat as it if is real.

"In this day and age, you never know what's going on with any kind of weapon out in public," he said.

Bryden advised any would-be filmmaker to let the building management and police know what was going on - before shooting video with fake weapons.
