Tulsa was named the 2014 eCity of Oklahoma for its strong online business community. Internet giant Google announced the designation Monday afternoon in downtown Tulsa.
“Our eCity Awards recognize the new ‘digital capitals' of America,” said Dave Barr, Google's hardware operations manager for the Oklahoma data center.
Tulsa was recognized for its efforts to create jobs and sustain the economy with Internet savvy.
"With 97 percent of Internet users looking for products and services online, it's clear that success is about being connected," Barr said in a news release.
Google worked with an independent research firm to analyze the "online strength" of local small business in each of the 50 states.
