The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says it's been called in to investigate after a McIntosh County deputy shot a man Saturday night.

The OSBI identifies the man as Christopher Ashley Hooper, 33. The shooting happened at about 11:30 p.m. October 4, 2014.

According to the OSBI, the incident began Saturday night when a deputy responded to a domestic dispute call involving a man and his son at a trailer park one mile east of  Highway 69 on Texanna Road.

By the time the deputy arrived about 11 p.m., the son had left. While speaking with the father, the deputy heard a gunshot. When the deputy went to investigate where the shot was fired, he found several people around a pit fire.

The deputy told the OSBI one of the people sitting near the fire shined a light at the deputy and he ordered the light to be turned off. According to the OSBI, Hooper stood and aimed a rifle at the deputy, who shot him one time in the chest.

Hooper was flown to a Tulsa hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

The OSBI says the deputy is on routine paid administrative leave while it investigates the shooting.

The McIntosh County District Attorney will determine whether the shooting was justified.
