Catoosa Fire Department was called to a house fire in the 19000 block of East 4th Street Sunday morning. Chief Denus Benton says family members made it out safely, but a dog passed away.

Family members woke to smoke at about 9 a.m., Benton said. The fire started on the west side of the house which appears to be a total loss.

There was some confusion about another child still being inside the home, but that girl spent the night elsewhere, authorities say.

The American Red Cross is en route to help the displaced family.

Benton said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. He wasn't sure if smoke detectors in the home were functioning or not.
