The Tulsa men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Akron on Saturday night at the FirstEnergy Stadium in Akron, Ohio. TU fell to 3-3-1 on the season, while the Zips moved to 3-2-1 overall.
“There are no positives you can take away from tonight,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. “We just have to move forward. We didn't do anything we were capable of doing from top to bottom. It is a loss we all have to take. Everyone played poorly, it wasn't just one person.”
Sean Sepe put Akron on the board with just 12:28 ticked off the clock and Victor Souto gave the Zips a two-goal cushion off a penalty kick in the 30th minute. Stuart Holthusen added a third goal at the 38:42 mark.
Akron had a 20-11 lead in shots, including a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal, and a 5-3 lead in corner kicks.
Aymar Sigue had three shots, two of which were on goal, while Tony Rocha, Byron Knowles-Ramirez and Ray Saari all had two attempts. Jake McGuire logged all 90 minutes in goal and had nine saves.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, Sept. 26th against SMU in the inaugural American Athletic Conference game for the Golden Hurricane.
