Owasso police arrested a man they say was trying to steal a large utility cable from a pole Monday morning.

Police identify the suspect as Robert Crawford Scott, 52, of Tulsa.

According to a news release, Owasso Police have been working with utility companies to stop a series of copper wire thefts in the area of 76th Street North and Mingo Road.

Officers arrested Scott at about 6 a.m. Monday in the 9700 block of East 70th Street in Owasso. They say he had bolt cutters and saws capable of cutting the 3" copper cable when they took him into custody.

Detectives are now checking to see if he is responsible for the other recent copper thefts in the same area. They say the thefts are costing utility companies as well as local businesses that depend on internet and telephone service.

Scott will be booked into the Tulsa County jail on a complaint of Receiving/Possessing Stolen Copper.
