Tulsa Public Schools says they've hired a new police chief, the second hired this year. Robert Swain is a former operators commander at the Denver school district.

James Hill, who had been hired this summer to replace former TPS Chief Gary Rudick, resigned due to health reason. Rudick retired in January, 2014.

“I am very pleased to have Mr. Swain leading our Campus Police Department,” said Superintendent Dr. Keith Ballard.

“His experience in Denver Public Schools' Department of Safety and Security, as well as his almost 35 years in law enforcement, should prove to be an invaluable asset to Tulsa Public Schools.”

Swain was also a police officer for the City of Colorado Springs for 22 years, during which time he had a temporary assignment with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

He will begin his new position for the Campus Police Department on October 3, pending School Board approval.
