The City of Coweta invites citizens to watch as one of their own is honored. Army Specialist Donald P. Sloat will be awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously Monday at the White House.
Specialist Sloat sacrificed his life to protect his fellow soldiers in Vietnam 40 years ago. He used his body as a shield to protect squad members when a grenade was tripped during a patrol.

Army Specialist Sloat will be represented by family at the White House ceremony, including his brother, Dr. Bill Sloat, who will receive the Medal of Honor on behalf of Sloat, sister Karen McCaslin, sister Kathy Sloat, and Kathy's daughter, Ashley, according to a release from the City of Coweta.
