Tulsa Police Arrest Teen In Theft Of Car With Toddler Inside

A one-year-old boy is safe and with his family after a carjacker took the boy on a short, but terrifying ride.

The boy's mother was putting air in her car tire at a gas station at Apache and Harvard Wednesday afternoon, when a man jumped into the car and took off.

The mom began screaming, ‘my baby, my baby' and hung onto the car as long as she could before she got thrown to the ground.

Little Allize was crying his eyes out when he was reunited with his very upset and relieved mom and dad. He wasn't hurt, and he'd only been gone about 15 minutes, but to his family it seemed like forever.

"I was very happy to see him. The Lord was with us. Pray, pray, all I can do,” said Allize's grandmother, Angie Tartsah.

One minute Angie's daughter was airing up her tire and the next, a man walked up, never said a word, jumped into the car and Angie's daughter tried to hang on for dear life.

"My daughter, she just cried, she said she was hanging on for her baby while he was going,” Angie said.

Just as police were gathering information for an Amber Alert, a citizen called and said they'd found a little boy walking in the street about five or six miles away. The boy was crying and scared, but alive and not hurt.

Captain Steve Odom, with the Tulsa Police said, "Most people in this area are working, so it's kinda surprising people were up and about to see a child wandering in the street, we're very, very lucky about that."

Right after that, they found the stolen car abandoned at a Warehouse Market near 61st Street North and Peoria. It even had a sign on back that said, “baby on board.”

K-9 officers immediately started searching the Osage Praire Trail that runs behind the store and saw a man who matched the description. After some questioning, officers realized he had on him some of the items from the woman's car.

Police then arrested the 17 years old. Police interviewed the teen who denied having anything to do with stealing the car.

He was booked into jail for larceny of a vehicle, child neglect and kidnapping.

His name is Ross Harjo, and his parents said he used to be a star soccer player, but got into meth and started stealing.

They said they've gone to the Department of Human Services and juvenile court and can't get help; and that when he's placed in a group home, he runs away.

As for Allize's family, what matters most to them is that Allize is okay and right where he belongs.
