SafeWise.com recently released a list of the safest cities in the Sooner state. The analysts looked at crime statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in 2012, taking note of crime rates in cities with populations surpassing 2,500.

Tulsa and Oklahoma City did not make the top 50 list.

The number one city on the list is Wilburton in Latimer County. SafeWise.com says Wilburton has .70 violent crimes per 1,000 residents and .35 property crimes per 1,000 residents.

A number of cities in eastern Oklahoma made the list, including three in Tulsa County and two in Creek County.

  • 4. Verdigris [Rogers County]
  • 12. Coweta [Wagoner County]
  • 14. Mannford [Creek County]
  • 16. Hominy [Osage County]
  • 19. Vinita [Craig County]
  • 21. Jenks [Tulsa County]
  • 34. Collinsville [Tulsa County]
  • 37. Fort Gibson [Muskogee County]
  • 38. Stilwell [Adair County]
  • 39. Broken Arrow [Tulsa County]
  • 41. Nowata [Nowata County]
  • 48. Sapulpa [Creek County]

The website looked at the number of violent crimes in each city and used that information to calculate the likelihood of those crimes happening per 1,000 people. This was in an effort to keep cities on a level playing field, regardless of population.
