A Claremore woman was arrested Friday for driving under the influence after an officer saw her drive off the road and crash into a light pole with a child in the car.

According to the report, Jane Capps drove her Buick SUV into the parking lot of IBC Bank at 1050 North Lynn Riggs Boulevard in Claremore. The officer said he saw the SUV drive over a curb and stop in the grass.

He said the vehicle then drove off the grass, crossed a bank drive leaving the road again before crashing into a light pole.

When the officer went to check on Capps he said she had a “very blank stare on her face.” He said he told her to put the car in park and turn off the motor but “she just stared at me and did not do as I was ordering.”

The officer said he was eventually able to get Capps to roll down the back window and he was able to remove the child from the back seat.

He said Capps then turned off the motor and when he tried to speak with her, he said he noticed her speech was slurred and she was having trouble keeping her eyes open.

An ambulance was called to the scene and the report says Capps was cleared, but admitted that she had been drinking scotch and taken three Trazadones and three or four muscle relaxers. She also said she didn't remember the accident or pulling into the bank.

Capps was taken into custody for DUI and child endangerment. Records show she's being held on a $51,000 bond.
