The city of Broken Arrow continues to make improvements to the Rose District downtown. Road construction is scheduled to begin this week, just after the completion of a new parking lot.
According to a news release, West Dallas Street will be closed to through traffic from Elm Place to Ash Avenue as crews begin working on the road; they said access to homes and businesses will be maintained.
Workers will also need to close lanes between Ash Avenue and Main Street to install a new waterline.
The release says crews will replace the existing pavement and add curbs and gutters, along with water line and storm water improvements.
“Drivers will experience traveling on some of the smoothest roads in Broken Arrow when they come downtown,” said City Councilor Jill Norman. “Excellent roads and ample parking will add to the overall experience when people shop, eat and do business in the Rose District.”
Crews are also finishing construction on West Broadway Avenue from Elm Place to Main Street.
Just before the road construction beings, the city said a new parking lot adding 120 new spaces – including six handicapped spots - has been added downtown.
The new lot is located one block west of South Main Street and is accessible from West El Paso Street.
“The new parking lot will make shopping at the Farmers Market a much more convenient experience,” said Scott Esmond, Director of Recreation, Parks, Cultural Affairs and Tourism. “With ample parking just less than a block away, patrons can spend more time searching for the best produce rather than the perfect parking spot.”
The new parking is open to the public seven days a week.
