If you add the Pride of Muskogee Marching Band with the Muskogee Fire Department, it comes out to a very nice community service combination.

A few Muskogee High School band members, a bunch of parents and firefighters all came together for something big this Labor Day.

"Doing something great takes a lot of time,” said Ann Hoffman.

Hoffman is with the Quarter Note Club, the band boosters. The Band has teamed up with the Muskogee Fire Department on a big community service project.

"We decided to do a blanket drive this year, we worked all summer on it,” Hoffman said.

Labor Day was day number one.

“This is the fun part of being a firefighter, getting out and helping and participating with the public," said Chief Derek Tatum.

The organizers made it easy.

There are six fire stations in Muskogee and each one is a drop off location for new or slightly used blankets.

The drive runs through November then the band will distribute blankets to groups and individuals who need them.

Chief Tatum said he has 94 firefighters in Muskogee, and that if you see one in the street, you should throw a blanket at him.

If you don't feel like throwing anything, you can take blankets to Muskogee fire stations through November.

The band also organized a fundraising 5K run later this month called Tempo di Runno. You can sign up here
