The Tulsa Police Department will undergo an assessment from the Commission of Accreditation of for Law Enforcement Agencies, a news release says.

Beginning Sunday, CALEA will examine all aspects of the Tulsa Police Department's policies and procedures, management, operations and support services.

Verification by the team that the Tulsa Police Department meets the Commission's state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process by the department to maintain the international accreditation the department first attained in 2005, the release says.

Chief Jordan stated “accreditation is a highly prized recognition of excellence in policing.”

The Tulsa Police Department has to comply with CALEA standards in order to gain accredited status.

Chief Jordan said, “By meeting or exceeding these national benchmarks of efficiency and effectiveness, citizens can be assured that the Tulsa Police Department will continue to provide quality policing services. We are committed to remaining an innovative and professional police department.”

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Monday, Aug. 18 from 6-8 p.m. The session will be conducted in the Compstat Meeting Room located at 600 Civic Center.

Individuals who cannot speak at the public information session but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, may do so by telephone. The public may call 918-596-1068 on Monday from 1-3 p.m.
