A Wagoner County Sheriff's Deputy has a broken jaw after being assaulted by a man last week, according to Major Gary Handley of the WCSO.
Justin Scott Perigo, 24, is in custody in the attack.
Authorities say Lieutenant Paul Mader stopped to talk to two men who were working on a broken down vehicle in the 12600 block of South 305th East Avenue. Perigo's truck had apparently broken down and another man was helping him pull the truck off the road, court documents state.
When Mader asked both men for their licenses to check for outstanding warrants, Perigo became upset and started to cuss at the deputy, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
Perigo poked the lieutenant in the chest near his badge a few times, and Mader started to take the Collinsville man into custody. That's when, court records state, Perigo started striking Mader on the face several times.
Mader said he lost consciousness at one point but was able to recover. The other driver who stopped to help Perigo reportedly assisted the injured law enforcement officer in taking Perigo into custody. Investigators say they found a knife lying on the ground where Perigo was arrested and a knife sheath on Perigo's belt.
Perigo is being held on a $100,000 bond for aggravated assault and battery on a police officer.
Mader is recovering from his injuries and has had his jaw wired shut, Handley said.
