Drillers Roughed Up By Frisco

After winning the opening game of the series in Frisco, the Drillers dropped Saturday night's contest by a final score of 8-1.

The matchup for Tulsa was no easy one, as they were tasked with facing the Texas Ranger's projected No. 2 starter Derek Holland, who was making a rehab start with Frisco.

Holland, who was 10-9 with a 3.42 ERA in 33 starts for Texas in 2013, pitched 3 scoreless innings, allowing only 3 hits and no walks while striking out 4. It was the lefty's third rehab start after undergoing microfracture knee surgery in January.

The RoughRiders got on the board first in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded, Texas Rangers top catching prospect Jorge Alfaro dropped in a well-placed single in front of right fielder Tyler Massey, putting Frisco up 2-0.

Frisco's lead swelled to three in the next inning. Joey Gallo, the eighth overall prospect in all of baseball according to MLB.com, drew a leadoff walk and promptly stole second base. Teodoro Martinez then moved Gallo to third with a single, and Nomar Mazara brought Gallo home with an ensuing base-hit.

Alfaro struck again in the fourth inning when he took the the third pitch he saw over the right field wall, increasing the Frisco lead to four.

The RoughRiders made it 5-0 in the sixth when Hanser Alberto singled, stole second and eventually scored on an infield hit from Alfaro, the catcher's fourth RBI of the evening.

Tulsa finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh inning when Chris O'Dowd doubled home Trevor Story from first, narrowing the deficit to four runs.

Frisco put the game out of reach with three runs in the bottom of the eighth off of Tulsa reliever Ryan Arrowood.

The Drillers were on the wrong end of pitching stat lines Saturday night, as Tulsa pitchers surrendered 8 walks while Tulsa batters struck out 16 times.

Drillers starter Richard Castillo threw 5.1 innings, giving up five runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out two.

Taylor Featherston led the Drillers with three hits on the evening, while Jayson Langfels and O'Dowd contributed two hits each.
