Former Oklahoma State football player Justin Blackmon was arrested for marijuana possession following a traffic stop Wednesday night in Edmond.
According to Edmond police, about 6:30 p.m., an officer stopped a car driven by Blackmon for a traffic violation at Edmond Road and Kelly Avenue. Police said the car was going westbound approaching the intersection when it drove into the eastbound lanes in order to navigate around stopped traffic to enter the southbound turn lane.
Police said Blackmon did not have a driver's license with him. While speaking to Blackmon, the officer said he could smell marijuana coming from inside the car.
The officer said he asked Blackmon to step out of the car. At that time, Blackmom admitted to there being marijuana in the car.
Blackmon, police said, also admitted to smoking a "blunt" of marijuana while he was driving, and that a full "blunt" was contained within a box of Swisher Sweets inside the car.
After a search, police said they found three grams of marijuana. Blackmon was arrested on one count of possession of marijuana and one count of improper passing on the left.
Police said throughout the incident, Blackmon was extremely honest and cooperative. He has been released from the jail after posting a $657 bond.
Blackmon was a two-time All-American and Biletnikoff Award winner while at Oklahoma State. He was selected fifth overall in the 2012 NFL Draft making him the highest-drafted Cowboy since Barry Sanders in 1989.

A month after being drafted, Blackmon was arrested in Stillwater for driving under the influence of alcohol. A year later, April 20, 2013, he was handed a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. He was indefinitely suspended later in the 2013 season for a repeat violation. Blackmon is eligible to apply for reinstatement before the 2014 season but Jaguars GM David Caldwell announced it is unlikely Blackmon will be back on the team this year.
