It was a tough night for the Tulsa Drillers.
Curt Smith homered and drove in five runs as the Cardinals cruised past Tulsa, 10-0, on Wednesday night in Springfield.
The Cardinals got two runs in the second inning and added another run in the fifth, but the big blow came in the sixth. Springfield exploded for six runs in the inning, increasing their lead to 9-0 and ending any chances the Drillers had at a comeback.
Sam Gaviglio (5-10) allowed just two hits in six innings and earned the win for Springfield. Eddie Butler (4-5) allowed six runs (four earned) in 5.1 innings and took the loss for Tulsa.
Ryan Casteel was the lone bright spot for the Tulsa offense. Casteel went 2-3 with a double. Tulsa managed just five total hits.
With the loss, Tulsa falls to 53-49 while Springfield improves to 47-56.
