The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said a Mounds man was killed in a Washington County crash early Saturday. The crash happened on Highway 75 about a quarter mile north of county Road 2900 near Ochelata, according to a collision report.
The OHP said Jared Clark was killed in the crash near the entrance to a convenience store at 6:40 a.m. Two vehicles were involved.
Clark was northbound on Highway 75 when the driver of a 2007 Freightliner pulled out of the store parking lot to go southbound. Clark's Nissan Quest hit the semi's trailer, the trooper said in his report.
The 39-year-old Mounds man died at the scene with massive head and other injuries. His passenger, Jordan Smith, was taken to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition with head and arm injuries. Troopers say both men were freed from their vehicle by the Ochelata Fire Department.
The driver of the Freightliner, 49-year-old Jeff Burney of Coffeeville, Mississippi, was not injured.
The OHP collision report states there was dense fog at the time of the wreck. Burney was in apparently normal condition before the crash. The cause of the crash is listed as failure to yield.
