Two Bartlesville Police Officers are credited with rescuing a boater on a city lake west of town early Friday.
Police said the two officers; Cheyenne Lee and Jarred Burdick were closing up the park at the Hudson Lake just before 12:30 a.m. when they spotted a pickup truck parked near the lake’s boat ramp. As the pair was checked the pickup truck, they heard calls for help coming from the lake.
Police Chief Tom Holland says the officers spotted a partially submerged jon boat about 50 yards from shore with a man hanging onto its side. Both officers swam to the boat. One officer freed the unidentified boater’s feet which had become entangled in a rope in the boat and then both officers dragged the victim to shore.
Chief Holland says the man stated he had been out on the lake and had accidentally tipped the boat, causing it to sink. Holland commended officers Lee and Burdick for their quick action in saving the boater’s life and has nominated both for the department’s Life Saving Award.
