Thousands gathered along the banks of the Arkansas River to see fireworks displays in Tulsa and Jenks.

The eighth annual Boomfest in Jenks began at 9:45 p.m., and organizers say it's the biggest show in Tulsa County.

Aside from an explosion at the finale, the show went off without a hitch. The fire chief said one of the large shells detonated at the ground level and caught one of the trailers on fire.

There were no injuries and no additional explosions, he said, just a little bit of drama that was quickly attended to by firefighters before it got out of hand.

During the show, people sat on their tailgates and on chairs to see the 28-minute show at the River Walk.

"You just got to keep it local," Jenks resident Crystal Moore said.

Independence Day began and ended with a bang in Green Country.

Crystal Moore's husband came six hours early just to get a good seat so he could snap some photos of the show.

"We brought our whole family," Moore said. "My family is in from Texas and they're all here enjoying downtown Jenks."

Fireworks were loaded in and line the 96th Street pedestrian bridge over the Arkansas River.

Luke Goodman and his family saved a table at Los Cabos for the show.

"It's definitely a big deal," he said. "There's tons of people coming in here. I think they say 100,000 or so and so it's absolutely a big deal."

The festival is centered around Los Cabos and the River Walk.

"Around 9 or 10 o'clock is when the huge crowds start coming in. There will be this entire area flooded [with people], you can't move at all," Goodman said.
