Osage Nation Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear Takes Office

Geoffrey Standing Bear was sworn in as the new principal chief Wednesday morning at the Osage Casino in Ponca City.

The Osage Nation has a new chief.  There was not an empty seat in the room as Geoffrey Standing Bear was sworn in as the new principal chief Wednesday morning at the Osage Casino in Ponca City. 

Standing Bear was elected in June after former principal John Red Eagle was removed from office for misconduct.

Standing Bear is an attorney with practices in Bartlesville and Pawhuska. He is a University of Tulsa graduate who has served as Supreme Court Justice of the Sac & Fox Nation of Oklahoma and General Counsel to the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. 

Also inaugurated were Raymond Red Corn, assistant principal chief, congress members Alice Buffalohead, Angela Pratt, Ronald Shaw and William Supernaw.

Osage Nation Supreme Court Cheif Justice Meredith Drent and tribal court judge Marvin Stepson also took the oath of office.
