TULSA, Oklahoma - Volunteers of America of Oklahoma (VOA) is partnering with local literacy organizations, libraries and schools to distribute books to low-income children.

Gently used or new book donations will be accepted the entire month of July at their office at 9605 E. 61st St. Volunteers will accept books weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The organization explains summer vacation often increases the achievement gap between low-income students and their middle class peers. Often this gap is a result of how accessible books are to children.

To reduce this gap, VOA distributes books around the Tulsa area for students to take home.

In the past year, more than 2,800 books were donated to 21 organizations and schools. Volunteers of America of Oklahoma hopes to reach even more children this year.

To submit an application to receive books for your organization, go to www.voaok.org/bookdrive.
