Customers of Wagoner County Rural Water District #9 are under a boil order due to the possible presence of E. coli in the water.
The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality says about 5,000 customers are impacted by the boil order.
DEQ's Erin Hatfield says users need to bring water to a full, rolling boil for at least one minute or use bottled water or water from another acceptable source for consumption, food preparation, dishwashing and brushing teeth.
She says customers will be notified when the water is considered safe.
The rural water district's service area is north and east of the community of Wagoner.
