Friends of the family of a little girl killed in a car crash on Highway 169 in Owasso last week have started an effort to raise money for her funeral and her father's medical expenses.

Katelyn Chambers, 8, died in the wreck. According to friends of the family her father, Brad, and her 5-year-old brother, Weston, were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Friends say Weston was released after spending two days in the hospital but her father suffered a head injury and will spend at least a few more weeks there. They say he faces a long recovery after that and that's why they've set up a fundraising web site.

Owasso Police say the wreck happened when a vehicle hit Chambers' car which had slowed for traffic.

They say the vehicle that caused the chain-reaction crash hit the back of Chambers' Honda Accord, forcing it into the back of a vehicle in front of it and causing that one to hit yet another vehicle in front of it.

The investigation is ongoing, according to Owasso Police, and it could be several more weeks before it's finished and prosecutors make a decision on whether to file charges.

Owasso Police said shortly after the wreck that distracted driving may have been to blame.
