The City of Grove is asking residents to curb their water usage after a dock housing the town's water pump collapsed into Grand Lake.
Assistant City Manager Debbie Botteroff said crews were working to replace floats under the dock Tuesday when a chain broke - causing the rest of the dock to capsize. The pump mechanism and dock are now on the bottom of the lake, she said.
Two workers on the dock at the time it capsized were uninjured.
Grove fire trucks are currently pumping water from the lake into the city's water treatment plant while city crews work to install a temporary pump between the lake and the facility. That meets about three-fifths of the city's needs at this time, Botteroff said.
Until the pump is replaced, businesses and residents are asked to use water for essential purposes only.
Despite rumors, the city is not under a boil order, she said. The city has ordered car washes and laundromats to close until the pump can be replaced, according to Botteroff.
