Memorial Day wasn't a complete washout, but the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the rain actually helped keep safety in check at areas lakes.

There were no major boating accidents and the rain didn't stop people from having fun

Believe it or not, even with the thunder, rain and lightning, die hard boaters and lake loungers were still kicking off summer at Keystone Lake; they just had to be willing to get wet at a moment's notice.

"Even though it rained the lake is still great. I mean, without the rain you wouldn't have the lake, so you take the good with the bad," said boater Rob Price.

Rick Patterson, said, "Great. We take a chance, it's Oklahoma. It changes all the time. It changes all the time."

With just a moment's notice, the sky opened up on Monday at Keystone Lake, with jet skis and boats still on the water, rushing to get back to shore.

"If you get caught out there, and visibility is going to be an issue, make sure that you have your lights on in your boat. If it's in climate and little dangerous you want to make sure everyone on your boat has a life jacket on," said OHP Trooper Tony Richardson.

But for this group and other lake loungers, rain didn't wash away fun.

"Oh yeah, we stayed out there as long as there wasn't any lightning, good rain for several hours. It rained on us, it was fine," said Price.

OHP is reminding people to watch the radar when there is a chance of storms or lightening. They also have tips to keep you safe online from the state's mandatory boating safety course.
