Cooler Flooding Possible for E/SE Counties.

What a difference a day can make! Notice the first map on the right, courtesy of the OK Mesonet, which shows the 24 hour temperature change across the state. Quite a difference from the 80s and low 90s that were the general rule at this time yesterday. These cooler temperatures are due to a cool front and some rain cooled air which has brought some badly needed precipitation for much of the state; just not enough for most of us and too much for some others. While much of the state has received some rain, it has generally been too little too late, particularly for the wheat farmers in the western counties. Meanwhile, the cool front which has helped set off these showers/storms is moving only slowly on eastward and flooding rains will be a good bet for the more E/SE counties over the next day or two.

So, too much rain too fast for some locations, not enough rain for most locations; at least we will all have a break in the recent heat wave. Northerly winds will persist for the next few days along with mostly cloudy skies and at least some lingering rain chances through the latter part of this week. That will keep temperatures much below normal with morning lows dropping into the 40s tonight and daytime highs only reaching the mid 60s at best on Tuesday.

For that matter, morning lows in the 40s are expected through Thursday morning and daytime highs not getting back into the lower 70s until Thursday or Friday afternoon. After that, a return to stronger southerly winds will warm things back up going into the coming weekend, but temperatures above normal are not likely till early next week. Unfortunately, the 8-14 day outlooks maps on the right suggest that following week will be hot and dry.
