A semi carrying a load of urea fertilizer overturned on the IDL in Tulsa Monday. Tulsa Fire Department is on scene for a clean up on the northwest leg of the IDL to the Sand Springs Expressway.

Officials say it appears the semi truck driver took the turn too quickly, causing the truck to flip on its side. The granulated fertilizer has spilled mostly across one lane of the highway.

A hazmat specialist on scene said because the fertilizer is not ammonium nitrate based, there is little danger. It was hoped that a mitigation company could get the spill cleaned up before the next wave of rain comes through the metro.

If the fertilizer gets on the grass, the grass will die off but then come back stronger, he said.

The overturned truck and spill is affecting traffic, so drivers will want to avoid the area.
