The Broken Arrow Police Department is hosting a prescription drug drop off in an effort to keep dangerous pills out of the hands of children.

The department said anyone can stop by the community center on Main Street and dispose unused, unneeded or expired medication from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday.

They will not accept IV bags, needles, infectious waste, pharmaceutical waste or radioactive pharmaceuticals or vaccines.

A news release cites an Associated Press investigation that says a vast array of pharmaceuticals — including antibiotics, anti-convulsions, mood stabilizers and sex hormones — have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans.
