Former Western Athletic Conference foes, Tulsa and San Jose State, have agreed to a two-game football series, it was announced today by TU's Vice President and Director of Athletics Derrick Gragg.
The first game in the series will be played in Tulsa on Sept. 3, 2016, while Tulsa will return the game in San Jose, Calif. on Sept. 7, 2019.
The Tulsa-SJSU series is even at three games apiece with all six games being played between 1999 and 2004, while both were members of the Western Athletic Conference. San Jose State opened the series with a 34-10 home win in 1999, followed by a Tulsa home victory, 28-17, a year later. The Spartans won the next two contests, with Tulsa closed out the series with back-to-back wins, a 34-32 road win in 2003 and a 34-24 home victory in the 2004 campaign.
San Jose State is currently a member of the Mountain West Conference. Tulsa enters the American Athletic Conference on July 1, 2014.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
