DA's Office Charges Tulsa Police Officer With Bribery

The Tulsa County District Attorney's Office has charged a Tulsa police officer with five crimes including two counts of receiving bribes.

The DA's office says it charged Tyrone Jenkins, 40, with taking a total of $3,100 in bribes during an undercover sting operation by the Tulsa Police Department.

Jenkins also is charged with two counts of violating the Computer Crimes Act and one count of Attempted Intent to Deliver an Illegal Narcotic.

"The circumstance of charging a law enforcement officer who is sworn to uphold the law is disappointing on many levels," said First Assistant District Attorney Doug Drummond.

"But at the same time, whether a person is a law enforcement officer or not, he must be held accountable under the law."

Drummond said Jenkins is accused of receiving payments of $2,300 on March 4 and $800 on March 17 in exchange for the officer's agreement to provide confidential information from a Tulsa police computer database.

In addition, prosecutors allege Jenkins attempted to deliver cocaine.

"Information received by the Tulsa Police Department led to the investigation of Mr. Jenkins. Conducting such an undercover operation on a fellow officer is a challenging task but the police investigation led to these charges," Drummond said.

In a news release, Drummond said each of the bribery charges carries up to 10 years in prison. Each count of a violation of the computer crimes act carries up to 10 years in prison. The drug charge carries a maximum of 22.5 years in prison.
