Police in Sand Springs are trying to find a suspected rapist. They say a 24-year-old woman was grabbed in a park late Monday night and raped by a man carrying a knife.
Sand Springs police are still waiting to get more information from the victim but they say she was at Ray Brown Park around 11 p.m. Monday night waiting on a friend.
She couldn't find the friend, according to police, so the woman walked into the park towards the playground equipment. She said that's when someone grabbed her and took her to a different part of the park.
Police say the woman is hearing impaired which is why she may not have heard the man. They also say she tried to fight back but wasn't able to.
"Our victim is hearing impaired and she indicated that the person came up from behind her and grabbed her and she tried to fight back, again, she said she wasn't successful in that attempt," said Deputy Chief Mike Carter.
A friend of the victim called police at 3:45 Tuesday morning and officers spoke to her briefly and took her medical attention. Police say the woman was too shaken up to undergo a full interview and they expect to meet with her Wednesday.
"Hopefully as we can talk to her more and get more answers then we'll be able to answer some of those," Carter said.
Police only have a vague description of the suspect and ask anyone with information call 918-245-8777.
