Ochelata Woman Killed Crossing Highway 75

An Ochelata woman is dead after pulling out into traffic on U.S. Highway 75, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Sandra K. Hammock died from multiple injuries at Saint John Hospital in Tulsa.

Troopers say Hammock was driving a 2008 Dodge Charger about two miles east of Ochelata in Washington County. She was westbound on a private drive at about 5 p.m. and attempted to cross the northbound lanes of Highway 75.

Her car was struck on the driver's side by a 2011 Dodge Caliber.

The 46-year-old Hammock was pinned in her car for about 20 minutes until freed by Ramona and Ochelata firefighters. A passenger in her car, 21-year-old Sarah C. Gann of Ochelata, was taken to a Tulsa hospital where she is said to be stable with head and arm injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Caliber, 70-year-old Ruth Stepien of Olathe, Kansas, was taken to a Tulsa hospital in fair condition with a leg injury, according to a collision report.

All the people involved in the wreck were wearing safety belts, the trooper's report states. The cause of the collision is listed as failure to yield from private drive.
