Owasso Police investigated a potential threat against the school system but do not expect to file charges. The investigation began at about 9 p.m. at the request of school administrators, according to Deputy Chief of Police Jason Woodruff.

A student said she overheard a conversation between two other students earlier in the day. One of the male students said he wondered what would happen to him if he "blew up the school," a news release states.

The student reported the conversation to administrators who in turn contacted Owasso Police.

"Officers immediately initiated an investigation, including interviewing the witness and the parties involved in the conversation," Woodruff said. A 16-year-old boy reportedly admitted making the statement but told police he had no intention of actually carrying out the act.

Police searched his home and the school and found no evidence the student was planning a violent act.

"School Resource Officers interviewed the known associates of the student, none of whom indicated that he had made any previous statements of this nature, and the comments appeared to be an isolated incident," Woodruff said.

The department concluded the threat was "not viable," Woodruff said.

The 16-year-old boy remained in the custody of his parents and no charges are expected, according to the news release.
