The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said a two-vehicle crash on the Turner Turnpike backed up eastbound traffic for miles Tuesday afternoon.

The OHP said an eastbound box truck was swerving just before the crash. Troopers said the truck hit an eastbound pickup truck sending the pickup down an embankment.

The OHP said two people in the pickup truck were ejected.  The driver was flown to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition and a passenger was taken by ambulance to a Sapulpa hospital in where they are said to be stable.

Troopers said an infant in a car seat was not injured. The driver of the box truck reportedly told authorities he dozed off just before the crash.

Because the medical helicopter landed on the highway to pick up the victim, troopers stopped eastbound traffic for 15 minutes.

The Sapulpa Fire Department responded to the crash which happened between Sapulpa and Kellyville at around 12:30 p.m.
