Walk In Peace To Remember Martin Luther King Jr. In Tulsa

The life and service of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. is celebrated Sunday with a Peace Walk and Monday with the annual parade.

Events celebrating the life of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. continue Sunday afternoon with the annual MLK Walk In Peace.

Join the Walk at 5:15 p.m. at 7th and Martin Luther King Boulevard in downtown Tulsa. The Walk In Peace continues to Boston Avenue Methodist Church for the annual Commemorative Service beginning at 6 p.m.

The guest speaker for the Commemorative Service this year is Arkansas attorney Gene McKissic. McKissic was the first black deputy prosecuting attorney to serve in Southern Arkansas, according to his biography on the Tulsa MLK Tulsa website.

He is now in private practice handling civil and criminal cases. He is described as an avid reader of early American, Civil War and civil rights history.

The 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. parade begins at 11 a.m. Monday. News On 6 anchors Lori Fullbright and Havonnah Johnson will be there.

The MLK Jr. Parade route starts on John Hope Boulevard near Elgin, proceeds through the OSU-Tulsa campus and the Greenwood Business District. It finishes up in front of ONEOK Field.
