Tulsa's Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology announced the appointment Friday of one of its board members, Peter Harris, as the school's new President and Chief Executive Officer.

In a news release, Spartan said Harris will succeed Jeremy D. Gibson, who served in that role for the past eight years.

"I am thrilled to join the ranks at Spartan College. It's a rare opportunity to serve in an organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities that have a meaningful impact on the lives of students and their families," said Peter Harris.

The school says Harris has served on many boards of directors for companies in education, service and manufacturing industries and is currently serving as Chairman of the Board of Meritas, a worldwide family of college-preparatory schools.

Gibson will continue on Spartan's board and remains actively involved in several key projects.
