Driving too fast in wintry conditions played a role in a one-vehicle crash that killed a Fairland man at about 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

William Charles was pronounced dead in the Grove Hospital.

Troopers say Charles was driving northbound on U.S. Highway 59 just north of Grove when he lost control of his Buick SUV. The SUV left the roadway and flipped, coming to rest upside down.

The79-year-old man was driving too fast for the ice and snow on the highway and was not wearing a seatbelt, according to an OHP collision report.
