Owasso Aiming To Attract Major New Employer

Owasso is in the running to attract a major employer. Strict confidentiality agreements prevent naming the company, but it could mean more than a thousand new jobs, and tens of millions of dollars invested in the area.

Owasso's city council voted to send half a million dollars from the hotel tax fund to the Economic Development Authority. The money will be used to help attract a major new employer.

City leaders are honoring a confidentiality agreement and won't comment about the chances, but according to public documents, a worldwide company which has been looking at 10 prospective sites across the country has narrowed its potential sites down to two, including Owasso.

The company proposes building a more than 1-million-square-foot facility, making a $90 million capital investment in the area. It would generate more than 1,000 new jobs.

The proposed location is outside the Owasso city limits, most likely on the west side of town near the Cherokee Industrial Park, but it is within the Owasso School District.

Money from the hotel tax fund being used as incentive money would be contingent on successfully recruiting the company.

The company is expected to make a decision on where to expand sometime in December.
