U.S. Senator Tom Coburn has been diagnosed with a recurrence of prostate cancer, according to Communications Director John Hart.

"Dr. Coburn has had a recurrence of prostate cancer and will be undergoing further evaluation and treatment," Hart said in a release.

Coburn will be out of the office for the remainder of this week and will be back as soon as he's able - hopefully next week, his communications department states.

He underwent surgery for prostate cancer in 2011. Coburn also had surgery and treatment for colon cancer in 2003.
