In a meeting that went well after midnight, the Jenks City Council voted to authorize the city attorney to file an unfair labor practice complaint against the Jenks firefighters union local.

The vote was 6-1 after discussions that at times were heated.

The council's action after came after all 17 members of the JFD publicly voted in October they had "no confidence" in Jenks Fire Chief Gary Friedel. Firefighters asked the city council to investigate his conduct.

Union members claimed during an October 21st meeting with the city council, that Gary Friedel has depleted the volunteer program and neglected to provide proper training to first year firefighters since he became chief six years ago.

Some councilors expressed frustration that the union aired their grievances through a public vote rather than filing a personnel complaint through the city - the basis of their unfair labor practice complaint.
