Bixby High School is hosting the state Student Council leadership conference for the first time this weekend, bring more than 2,000 students and advisors to the south Tulsa County town.
Bixby senior Courtney Spears, STUCO state secretary, said it's a chance to showcase the city and school system.
"We have worked really hard to secure the opportunity to host this convention and have been preparing for more than three years," she said.
Over 20 volunteers helped transform the high school into a world of super heroes for this year's theme, "Lead Beyond Your Mask."
The conference begins Saturday in Whitey Gym and continues through Monday morning.
Spears said the community will benefit through hotel and food sales, and council members have already grown through the challenges in preparing for the event.
"The mission of the student council leadership program at Bixby High School is to participate in the government of the school while also serving as the source of communication between the student body and the administration," she said.
"Participants ultimately learn how to become organizational leaders by nurturing traits of good citizenship."
