According to The New York Daily News, Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn had some unflattering words for one of his senate colleagues at an event Monday evening.
The newspaper covered Coburn's speech at a gala for the New York Young Republican Club where he discussed working with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
In response to a question about civility in the Senate, the New York Daily News reports, the Republican senator from Muskogee said it's easier to work with some Democrats than others. That's when he singled out Reid, according to the paper.
"There's no comity with Harry Reid. I think he's an absolute a--hole," Coburn reportedly said.
Reid's office issued a statement Tuesday reacting to Coburn's reported remarks. "Nothing says 'comity' like childish playground name-calling, especially from a senator who has not sponsored a single piece of successful bipartisan legislation during his entire Senate career."
Tuesday, CNN reported Coburn refused to confirm his reported remarks, but did say Reid has "done more damage to the Senate than any majority leader."
