Jennifer Abernathy recorded her second multi-goal game of the season on Friday as the Oral Roberts University women's soccer team defeated Houston Baptist on the road, 3-0.
ORU improved to 6-2 in Southland Conference matches and 11-4 overall, while the Huskies fell to 4-9-1 and 3-4.
Abernathy earned her sixth goal of the season in the 28th minute as she drew a foul in the penalty area, and converted the penalty kick to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Despite the ORU lead, both teams played evenly through the first 45 minutes as each team took nine shots with the Golden Eagles holding a 4-3 advantage on shots on target. However, ORU dominated in the second half, outshooting the Huskies in the final stanza, 9-2, with five on goal.
In the 62nd minute, Jordan Parsons extended the Golden Eagles' lead to 2-0 as Abernathy found her for the goal. It was Parsons' fourth goal of the year.
Abernathy put the nail in the coffin in the 85th minute with her seventh goal of the season, placing the ball in the back of the net from the left side of the box. The senior midfielder finished with five points in the match, the second time she has recorded five or more in a match this season.
All six of Abernathy's shots were placed on goal, while Parsons had two on target and Kaily Cox added one. Leading the way for the Huskies was Molly Missimer with four shots on goal.
Maddie Rhodes (7-3) recorded her third shutout of the season with five saves in the victory. Patty Walrath picked up six saves for the Huskies as she fell to 3-3.
The Golden Eagles play their final regular season road match on Sunday as they head to Sam Houston State on Sunday for a conference showdown. Kickoff in Huntsville, Texas, is set for 1 p.m.
