Corps Of Engineers Permit Offices To Close In Tulsa, Nationwide

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Tulsa District announced that its regulatory offices will be closing due to the lack of funding during the federal government shutdown.

The closure could hold up projects such as road construction and commercial development.

"We review permits along the navigable waterways of the U.S.," said Corps of Engineers spokesperson Sarah Goodeyon. "If someone is going to do any type of construction around the water, they have to apply for a permit."

The Tulsa office at 1645 S. 101st East Avenue and Corps regulatory offices nationwide will be closing. This will affect permit applications, pre-construction notification and nationwide or regional permit applications.

"That's all going to be on hold until after the shutdown is lifted," Goodeyon said.

Anyone who must conduct an emergency activity in waters or wetlands that requires Department of Army authorization can contact the Corps' Emergency Operations Center at 918-669-7599 or 918-669-7325.

Depending on how long the shutdown continues, Goodeyon warned that there may be a backlog of permit applications when offices reopen.
