Seven Tulsa Public elementary schools are taking part in International Walk to School Day Wednesday.

One of the Tulsa schools is Marshall Elementary at 56th and Peoria where dozens of students plan to walk to school Wednesday.

Organizers of the event say there are two objectives. One, increase awareness of the need for safe walking routes to schools and two, getting children exercising in hopes of reducing on childhood obesity.

In addition, they hope walking or taking a bicycle to school will help reduce pollution.

Tulsa Public Schools participating include:

  • Marshall Elementary
  • Celia Clinton Elementary
